Christmas is a religious and cultural festival celebrated by billions of people across the world to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. The name Christmas comes from Christ Mass which is the only service in churches allowed after sunset and before sunrise so it is conducted at midnight. Christmas has now become a festival where family and friend come together and exchange gifts and celebrate the birth of Christmas with great pomp and show.

Way of excecution and activities Christmas

As per the story in Gospel, Christmas is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Jesus. Roman Catholics and Protestants celebrate Christmas on December 25th but many other Christian communities celebrate it on the 24th December night. In Kerala Christmas is an important event and celebrated with great pomp and show. This spectacular celebration is enriched with lots of customs and ceremonies. Each and every house is decorated with Christmas star and Christmas tree. Christmas carol an indispensable part of the festival is organized by neighborhood friends and families who visit each and every house irrespective of religion. Dressing up as Father Christmas or Santa Claus and giving presentations of Christmas cakes and gifts to people is one of the main events of this festival. Christmas in Kerala is considered as secular festivals where people from all walks of life irrespective of cast, creed and religion take part in it. Christians across the country mark Christmas day by attending mass and special services in the Church. They prepare a special meal consisting of turkey and other festive foods for family and friends. Children’s are given gifts by parents and relatives and by the mythical figure Santa Claus. Today Christmas has become a commercialized festival with families spending a large part of their income in clothes, gifts and food during the festival.
