About

Gavi is a small village situated in border of Pathanamthitta district and Idukki district which is an Eco-Tourism project promoted by Kerala Forest Development Corporation. This place came to limelight after 'Alistair International' the world acclaimed tourism major ranked it as leading eco tourism centre and must see place in India. This has caught the attention of tourist and nature lovers from across the world especially from European countries. Gavi is a beautiful, unadulterated and quiet forest haven abundant with carnivorous, herbivorous and omnivorous wildlife. The flora and fauna of this place is loved by nature explorers who can get acquainted with rare plants and herbs. The highly endemic species of the Gymnosperm family like the Nageia Wallichinia or Podocarpus Wallichinia is seen only here. Gavi is home to over 320 species of birds and it attracts Ornithologists from all over the world. Gavi offers adventure tours like trekking, wildlife watching, outdoor camping, night safaris, boating in the reservoir, canoeing and Jeep safari. Tourist can camp in the forest or stay in tree houses and light a bone fire to keep the chill out during the night. The journey to this lovely spot is blanketed by tea plantation along the curvy roads with an eye catching view of the hills, valleys, tropical forests, shoals, beautiful grasslands, cascading waterfalls and cardamom plantations on the way.
