About Sabarimala Temple

Sabarimala pilgrimage center is surrounded by hill tops,valley and fountains. The main infrastructure of this temple is situated on a hilltop at an altitude of 468 m. So, the open sky acts as a canopy to cover the top of the shrine. There is restriction for women to enter into this shrine. Ayyappan was unmarried and he never allowed women to meet him. So women are not permitted to visit this temple. All monks are found roaming around the temple. Their foreheads are radiant with ashes and aromatic dust. It is an old custom. This sacred place is open to devotees on special festivals like Mandalapooja. Many foreigners also visit this temple as they have curiosity to know about the history of this temple. Maha Vishuva Sankranti is another occasion for people to revisit this temple. They are cordially invited by associates and caretakers of this shrine. In Kerala, people respect Ayyappan. So they are enthusiastic to go to Sabarimala Temple on different occasions.

History or Myth

Over 50 million devotees are found paying orison to their god at Sabarimala Temple in Kerala. This fantastic pilgrimage center is situated close to Pathanamthitta District in Kerala. The mythological god named Ayyappan is worshipped by devotees. It is believed that in ancient times, this powerful god killed demons to save the world from black magic and evil spirits. So this god is so dear to devotees who want to protect their families from destruction, fire, and evil spirit. This temple is open to all people irrespective of caste and religion. Every year, million devotees go to this temple to have blessings from God.

How to reach

    BY AIR
    By air, pilgrims are happy to go to Thiruvananthapuram. Then they go to Pampa to catch buses to arrive at this temple.
  • train
    BY TRAIN
    You can reach by train from any part of India. After reaching Kottayam and Chenagnnur by train(broad gauge), you need to hire vehicle to start journey from Pampa to reach Sabarimala temple.
  • bus
    BY ROAD
    Bus service is available from all the places in Kerala and luxury buses are available from most of the South Indian cities. KSRTC bus service at Pampa is an excellent way of reaching this temple.
