Triprayar Sree Rama Swami Temple is situated 22 km east of Thrissur City Centre. Nearest railway station is Thrissur Railway station and the nearest Airport is Nedumbassery International Airport in Cochin which is 58 kms away. The temple is well connected by road from all the nearby cities and towns.

About Thriprayar Sree Rama Temple

The unique thing about Triprayar Sree Rama Swami Temple is that the idol of Lord Rama resembles chaturbhuja Vishnu that is with four arms bearing a conch, a disc, a bow and a garland. Triprayar Sree Rama Temple is filled with wood carvings and the sanctum is circular in shape with conical covered copper roof with a crown of golden Thazhikakkudam. The temple walls are decorated with mural paintings and sculptural representation of scenes from the Ramayana. The copper plated namaskara mandapa in the temple which is profusely sculptured has woodcarvings representing navagrahas. Triprayarappan is also called as Khara Samhara Moorthy because he killed the demon Khara and got Shaiva and Vaishnava aspects. Some of the other deities inside the temple are lord Hanuman, Lord Ganesh, Dakshinamoorthy, Lord Ayyappa and Gosala Krishnan. A lamp behind the idol is always kept burning and devotees believe that they get relief from troubled evil spirits.

History or Myth

Triprayar Sree Rama Swami Temple is located in Thrissur district of Kerala and the presiding deity here is dedicated to Lord Rama. The deity is also known as Triprayarappan and Triprayar Thevar. It is a magnificent temple associated closely with temples dedicated to Lakshmana at Tirumoozhikkalam, Bharata at Koodalmaanikkam and Satrugna at Payammel. It is believed that the idol of Lord Rama installed here was initially worshipped by Lord Krishna and after his death the idol was immersed into the Ocean. Local fisher men from Chettuva regions found this idol in the sea and the local ruler Vakkayil Kaimal constructed a temple at Triprayar and installed the idol.
