Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple is situated 3 km from Haripad town in Alappuzha district. This temple is near the National highway NH 47 on the Trivandrum Ernakulum route. The nearest railway station and bus station is Haripad and the nearest Air Port is Nedumbassery International Airport in Cochin 115 km away.

About Mannarasala Nagaraja Temple

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple is located about three kilometers north-east of the bus station of Haripad in Alappuzha District of Kerala. It is said that devotees who worship Nagaraja with devotion will have children, will get cured of all disease, have long life and wealth. A woman who seeks fertility comes here for worship and when the child is born they give thanking giving poojas. The Brahmin lady known as Valia Amma who had attained a divine form and high in spirituality is the heart and soul of this temple. It is said that a childless couple who were ardent devotees of Nagaraja was blessed with a five-hooded serpent-child after continuous penance. This child was Nagaraja himself and when he grew up and realized that the objective of his reincarnation has achieved he went to the cellar for eternal Samadhi with instructions that only the holy mother will perform all the poojas. Devotees now refer to him as Muthassan or appoppan with great respect.

History or Myth

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to the serpent god Nagaraja who is Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva in one. This temple was consecrated by Lord Parasurama in an area called as Thirthasthala a placed filled with mantara trees now called Manarasala after Nagaraja desalinated the land of Kerala and agreed to bless the land with his eternal presence. The rituals and beliefs of Manarasala temple are totally different from other temples and this is the only temple where all the poojas are done by a Brahmin Lady.
