Navarathri

Navarathri or nine night’s festival is an important major festival celebrated all over India. During these festival nine forms of goddess Sakthi/Devi is worshipped and the last three days of Durgashtami, Mahanavami and Vijayadashami is dedicated to goddess Saraswathi who is the goddess of wisdom and learning. During this festival several rituals and ceremonies are used on Vijayadashami day to introduce infants to the world of letters.

Way of excecution and activities Navarathri

Navarathri festivals are celebrated to enable humans to overcome the nine types of darkness that have engulfed their life. Navarathri festival is celebrated in three parts the first three days are dedicated to the worship of goddess Durga, the next three days to worship goddess Lakshmi and the last three days to worship goddess Saraswathi. Devi represents the unified form of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi and together they form Sakthi. In Kerala, Vijayadashami day is considered very auspicious for introducing children into the world of letters which is called Vidyarambham. In this ritual words symbolizing the name of God are written on the tongue of the child with a golden ring and made to write letters in a plate of rice with the help of elders. Ayudha pooja or worshipping of vocational tools is an integral part of Navarathri festival. Devotees keep their work tools and students their books and other study materials in the pooja room for worship. The nine forms of Shakti worshipped during Navaratri festivals are Durga, Bhadrakali, Amba, Annapoorna, Sarvamangala, Bhairavi, Chandika, Bhavani and Mookambika. Navaratri festival is a period of examining one's conscious thoughts and feelings and purifying it. It is considered as an auspicious and religious time for starting new ventures.
