Kappad betterly known as Kappakadavu is a well known beach located at Calicut in India. This is the place where the famous Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama first landed on May 20, 1498. This was the voyage that helped in establishing the sea route of Europe to India. This made the arrival of numerous European merchants in India easier. This in turn helped the British East India Company establish their rule in India and cursed India with the British colonial Rule in the later days.
Kappad Beach is situated in the Kozhikode town which is a very important beach destination in Kerala’s history. This is an adorable beach and is very calm which makes it a suitable place to enjoy the beach in the evening also. There is a pavement very near to this beach where there are numerous sculptures curved out of stone and is a must visit for every tourist.
Reaching the Kappad beach is very easy and from Kozhikode one can avail the backwaters of Kerala to reach the spot or can simply go by the road. One can also land at the Karipur International Airport. It someone wishes to go by train then he or she has to get down either at the Koilandy or the Kozhikode railway station which are the nearest railway station. On the Mavoor road there is the KSRTC bus terminal which is the nearest bus terminal.
At present there is a very beautiful cornice as well as a park in the Kappad beach and inside the park there is a well maintained rest room, restaurants and places to seat.
