About Lokanarkavu Temple

Lokanarkavu Temple is located at a place called Memunda just 5 km from Vadakara town towards the northern side of Calicut District in Kerala. Lokanarkavu temple is closely associated with the legendry hero and heroines of Kadathanadu and the goddess Durga of this temple is also known as Lokanarkavilamma was the dearest god of the legendary martial arts exponent Thacholi Othenan of Kadathanadu. Near Lokanarkavu Bagavathy Temple there are three rock cut caves full of candid murals and carvings adorning the walls dating back to centuries. It is believed that Goddess Durga accompanied a whole community of Aryan Bharmins who migrated to Lokanarkavu to settle down and they built this temple about 1500 years back. Even today they consider the deity as their mother instead of a Goddess. Most of the Goddess temples in Kerala are in Madhyama sate and very rarely in Uthama state. Lokanarkavu Temple is the only Goddess temple in Athyuthama state. Lokamalayarkavu stands on a lush land with serene and holy environment which brings a sense of calmness to the mind. The temple has been constructed as per the traditional Kerala Architecture. It is believed that without praying to the ancestors of this temple first the Goddess won’t hear your prayers.
