About Beemapally

The mosque dedicated to Beema Beevi is situated at Beemapally in Thiruvananthapuram. The mosque is the first to hold Juma prayers in India and second in the world. It is also famous for the Uroos festival which is conducted every year in remembrance of Beema Beevi.

The mosque is quite large, and its architecture is typical to that of other mosque. It has many minarets and domes, and sits in the middle of a bustling city. The colour of the masjid is hot pink, making it stand out among other mosques. It is considered to be one of the beautiful in the country.

Tourism of Kerala has listed Beemapally Mosque as a must-visit site when visiting Kerala. The mosque receives a large number of people irrespective of their caste and religion, making it very unique.

History or Myth

The mosque at Beemapally, Trivandrum is named after Syedunnisa Beema Beevi, who is believed to be a relative of the Prophet. Around the time when Malik Ibn Deenar arrived India, Beema Beevi along with her son arrived from Mecca. She was a very spiritual woman, who possessed supernatural powers. She could cure any kind of illness, and helped people irrespective of their religion or caste. The mosque was built in homage to her.
